The legendary venue is set to close on Sunday 15th October with Patti Smith, preceded by an acoustic set by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein of Blondie on Saturday 14th. CBGB's opened in December 1973 acheiving legendary status in the early days of punk.

The CBGB's fashion store is set to continue until October 31st at it's current address 315 Bowery Street NY. On November 1, it will open as CBGB Fashions at Broadway and Bond Street NY.

Landlords Bowery Residents Committee have refused to thes lease after a dispute over rent rises.

Owner Hilly Kristal says he plans to open a new CBGB's club in Las Vegas.

"We're going to take the urinals - I'll take whatever I can," he told the Associated Press news agency.

He was told,"You ought to take everything, and auction off what you don't want on eBay"

Which he says he intends to do, so look out on eBay in late October early November.

Steven Van Zandt, of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band now better knownfor his part in The Sopranos, organised a rally last year in a bid to save the club.

The venue was founded by Kristal, its full name CBGB OMFUG standing for "country, bluegrass, blues and other music for uplifting gormandizers".
