Burberry & Kate Moss

In the UK Burberry may bring to mind Danielle Westbrook's baby buggy and Kate Moss is forever now linked with Pete Docherty but across the world Kate Moss is helping Burberry announce record profits with a 10% rise in sales in the first six months & shares beating expectations by rising nearly 42% to 522p. Kate's back on board and no-ones talking about the split that came after Moss's tabloid problems in the past year.

At time they agreed to go their seperate ways but now they are quoted as saying "She's an icon...." and the bag she has heavily promoted for Burberry, The Manor Handbag, whilst retailing at £750 is amongst the most popular.

Last week it was rumoured the Top Shop style guru Jane Sheperdson, who had overseen the high street companies rise from the ashes, quit over the appointment of Kate Moss as a "designer" without her knowledge, although today, Friday 13th October 2006, Jane Sheperton was denying this was the reason she walked away.

With a 10% rise in first half sales to £392m, Burberry's CE Angela Ahrendts was quoted yesterday (12.10.06) : "Continued strength in outerwear and womenswear, as well as the extraordinary consumer response to the launch of the Burberry Icons Collection of luxury handbags, have fuelled excellent retail performance across markets."

"Our distinctive 150th year advertising campaign and unprecedented editorial coverage contributed to the sales momentum. As a whole, performance in the first half is consistent with expectations for the full financial year."
